How to Compress a PDF

Use the compressor in a few simple steps while choosing the level that best matches your document.

1. Choose your PDF

Select or drop a PDF file. The tool opens and processes the document in your browser on your device.

2. Select a Compression Level

Best Quality uses lighter compression when clarity matters most. Balanced is a practical choice for everyday documents. Smaller Size applies stronger compression when reducing file size is the priority.

3. Set a Target File Size When Needed

If a website or application requires a specific upload limit, choose a preset target or enter a custom size in KB or MB. The compressor tries to approach that target without using extreme quality loss. Some PDFs cannot safely reach very small targets.

4. Compress and Download

Select Compress PDF, review the original and output sizes, then download the compressed PDF when the result is ready.

Choose the Right PDF Compression Setting

Best Quality

Use this for documents where page clarity is more important than achieving the smallest possible file. The size reduction may be lighter.

Balanced

A good starting point for general documents when you want a useful reduction in file size while keeping pages readable.

Smaller Size

Use stronger compression when an upload limit matters more than maximum page sharpness. Always review the downloaded result before submitting an important document.

About PDF Compression

This tool compresses PDFs by rendering document pages and rebuilding them with compressed page images. This works well for reducing many scanned or image-heavy PDFs, but interactive elements, selectable text, forms, annotations or links from the original PDF may not be preserved in the same way. Keep the original PDF when those features are important.
